School Dances

Sweaty. Loud...Middle school dances.

School dances have always bothered me. First of all, to the girls grinding in the corner of the gym, you're going to be pregnant before high school. (Invite me to your baby shower. I want to laugh at you.) Why do we enjoy spending our nights in a sweaty, humid gymnasium trying to figure out what your friend just said about his crush over the blaring sound of that one song that gets played way too often on the radio. To be fair, school dances aren't all that bad. It's a good opportunity to awkwardly slow-dance with your crush. Sure your bodies are a meter apart and sure it was only for 30 seconds because it took you the whole song to finally ask her to dance but you'll still never forget it. I'd also like to point out that the ringing in my head the next morning makes me regret going every time. Despite all of that, I still haven't missed a single school dance. I guess I'm afraid that when I'm old and wrinkly I'll say to myself "I really missed out. I should have gone to that school dance."
